Automatic Transcription at NAB SHOW 2016
As another NAB SHOW approaches, VoiceInteraction prepares to unveil the latest developments of its solutions for the Broadcasting, Media & Entertainment Industries.
What’s New at the NAB SHOW 2016
This year’s event will be used for the global launch of its screenplay time-coding solution, built to allow Media & Entertainment professionals to go a step further in automating the building of post-production scripts. Broadcasting companies who visit VoiceInteraction’s booth will learn about automatic approaches to media archive indexing through the combination of proprietary, real-time speech transcription technology with automatic language and speaker identification tools recently developed by VoiceInteraction. In addition to getting insight into those newly-developed solutions, our visitors will have the chance to watch live demos of the our Media Monitoring System (a Broadcast Monitoring and Compliance Logging Solution) and AUDIMUS.MEDIA (a Fully Automatic System for Live Captioning Audiovisual Contents) comprising the most recent advances arisen from the company’s research activities.
NAB SHOW 2016 will be held in Las Vegas, NV, April 18-21, 2016. Join us at booth SU1621, South Hall (Upper). We are looking forward to receiving your visit at our booth SU1621 (South Hall Upper 1621, Brazil’s Pavilion). If you wish to schedule a meeting during the event for more thorough discussions with Prof. João Neto, CEO of VoiceInteraction, please, send us a Meeting Request to the email nabshow2016@voiceinteraction.tv
Bridging the Gap between Screenplays and Closed Captioning/Subtitling
The community’s increasing awareness about the need for policies to ensure equal access, equal opportunity to participate and effective communication with people who are deaf or hard of hearing led to the creation of rules imposing requirements on the delivery of audio and audiovisual contents in alternative mechanisms, such as closed captioning. On the other hand, Films and TV Series are produced from screenplays, which narrate the actions, describe the scenarios and, above all, provide transcripts of the dialogues. However, even though screenplays do already contain those transcripts, time-coding them (i.e. marking the in/out points of each dialogue) to create closed captions is a cumbersome and time-consuming task that can delay the delivery of the contents. Apart from the accessibility-related purposes of closed captioning, movie translators also take advantage of dialogue time-coding as they need the source-language captions to choose the translation that best fits the screen and the time allotted for the subtitle.
Through the exploitation of its real-time speech transcription technology for aligning the screenplay dialogue transcripts with the audio track, VoiceInteraction developed a fast and accurate approach to time code generation. By aligning word sequences arisen from the automatic transcription with those coming from the dialogues available in the screenplays, it becomes possible to automatically map the time codes of the automatically-transcribed words onto the words of the dialogue transcripts. The system operates in under real-time conditions, that is, the overall procedure is finished in less than playback time.
